Best of Breed
2006 ARBA Convention

Our family lives in the small town of Maple Hill, Kansas,
20 miles west of Topeka.
Our family includes me, Becky, my husband Jeremy,
our thirteen year old son Alex and our seven year old
daughter Gabrielle.

Jeremy grew up raising and
breeding rabbits and encouraged me to get involved.
Though he raised mostly meat breeds,
when I went searching online, I just
gravitated towards the smaller breeds.

We got our first show Lionheads in the summer of 2005.
We have had much success nationally with our Lionheads, including
Best of Breed at ARBA Convention in 2006, and many
Variety wins at the National show over the last few years.

We have always believed in the mantra "to breed hard and cull harder" and
this philosophy has helped us accomplish a lot with our herd in a
relatively short amount of time.

After showing Lionheads competitively for over a year
we decided to make an addition to our herd,
so that we no longer had to sit around all day and wait to show!
Jeremy and I then added mini rex to the herd.
The majority of our show stock was
obtained from our good friend Sandra Neal.

We have been pleased to have won several Best of Variety
awards at convention and the National Mini Rex shows
in both Seal and Sable Point.

The kids also decided to get their own breed, the Holland Lop.
Gabrielle's favorite varieties are ruby-eyed-white and tort,
so the kids decided to focus on those varieties,
as well as broken torts.

Gabby is the main Holland Lop breeder and
exhibitor of the kids and her hard work since 2006
has really started to pay off.

In 2009 Gabby won her first Best in Show in an
all breed show, which was one of her goal for the year.
She then added two more Best in Shows in the same month!
Gabby's other goal of the year was to finish
in 1st place in the National Holland Lop Club Sweepstakes
for quality points and she succeeded!
Quality points are the amount of Best of Breeds,
Best Opposites, Reserve in Shows, and Best in Shows
won in the year.

Gabby attended Holland Lop Nationals in 2010 and
placed 12 rabbits, the majority of which placed in the top ten!
Her goal this year, despite showing less, is to remain
competitive with her homegrown stock, working now on
her third and fouth generation Holland Lops.
Gabby takes great pleasure in picking her breedings and
watching her babies grow from poppers to best in show
winning Hollands :)

In the Fall of 2009 we purchased a new home just outside of Maple Hill.
This afforded us a larger rabbitry and with 4 acres more room to grow.
